Lindheimer’s Beeblossom, Gaura lindheimeri

Lindheimer’s Beeblossom, Gaura lindheimeri

A member of the Onagraceae or evening primrose family, the genus Gaura is composed of rather weedy plants. The Gaura lindheimeri perennial ranges from 2–5 feet in height and has four-petaled flowers. Conspicuously long stamens also distinguish this species. Butterflies love the plant. Asa Gray cultivated Lindheimer’s gaura and then exhibited it at the Horticultural Society in Boston.
