Meeting with Anke Schiemann

by unknown
When: Jul 8, 2013 at 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Note: Anke requested changing the meeting from Tues. to today. Arrangements still pending a/ 5 July.

Linda will meet Anke Schiemann to tell her about the history of the area and about the Hessian prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels who brought so many Germans over to Texas. She and her colleague, Laura D'Asta, think it is such a fascinating story that they would love to hear more about it and include it in their film, "I heart Berlin". The project is a collaboration with the German American Heritage museum in Washington D.C. as a follow up project to the exhibition "Ich bin ein Berliner", which is opening in late June on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of JFKs speech "Ich bin ein Berliner".

They would also like to meet with Dorit Knippa who was born in Berlin and was a child during the Berlin airlift. "These are beautiful little stories we would like to retell. Either we meet him/her at the museum or make a home visit." If Dorit agrees to the interview, she may want to show them the "Berlin room" in her home with her memorabilia, especially the photos of Col (Ret) Gail Halvorsen, the "Berlin candy bomber" and the thank-you letters and drawings from the children of Berlin to her father.
