TECH UPDATE 2015-09-26

by aking
When: Sep 26, 2015

-- DONE -- Weekly New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung download
-- DONE -- New still images DVD (IMAGES2015-09-26) without obsolete Sophienburg graphics. More than 1,000 images. Disk is in player now. The new player is better behaved when playing still images; it scales only those images that have more pixels than the screen; smaller images are displayed pixel-for-pixel in the middle of the screen. I wrote and printed instructions that are next to the player.
-- DONE -- Removed from home page: "September 25 —Sophienburg Closed(Comal County Fair Parade)"

-- IN PROGRESS -- IMAGE FILENAME PROBLEM: While looking for images for the the back desk DVD I noticed about 1,400 files in the P:\IMAGES folder that do not have filename extension such as ".jpg" or ".tif". Most, perhaps all, of these files are JPGs. I have copied each misnamed image file to "_" plus the filename plus ".jpg" so that Windows and Photoshop can open the files. Also, any periods in the non-extension part of the filename have been converted to underscores -- some programs do not handle periods in filenames correctly. Images scanned through PastPerfect can be cataloged without filename extensions, so the files with bad extensions work in PastPerfect BUT NOWHERE ELSE, such as in Windows or Photoshop. I will write a procedure for those who need to Save as or Export an image without a filename extension for use in other programs.
