All the ususal Saturday tasks, plus:
Shop computer does not connect to wired network
•Network and Sharing Center: Local Area Connection blinks on and off.
•Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections: "Network cable unplugged"
•Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller: Update Driver Software: Search online for software:Best driver already installed.
•Bad cable? Do I have my tester in the car? No.
•Move computer to front desk to see if wired connection works. Same symptoms.
•Connect Alan's notebook computer to the Ethernet cable in the shop: RESULT: SAME SYMPTOMS
•Connect Alan's notebook computer to sophienburg.local with an Ethernet cable in the scan/print room: RESULT: ETHERNET CONNECTION WORKS
•Try Alan's notebook computer connected to the network at the front desk.
•What is different for the computers that do not connect to the wired network?
•Bad network adapter? NOT LIKELY
•IP address conflict? NO. Local Area Connection Properties, Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties: SAME SETTINGS AS OTHER COMPUTERS ON SOPHIENBURG.LOCAL
•"Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding" error message in Windows 7 support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2779064
•There is more, but this is what I wrote down.
•Also came in Sunday for a few hours and Monday for an hour.
•I am stumped.
