Group Tours

The Sophienburg Museum is ideally suited for groups of 10, and can accommodate groups of up to 30 people. Whether you’re visiting New Braunfels for the day—or for the weekend—add a stop at the Sophienburg to your plans. Have strudel and coffee with us at the museum, grab lunch in town or stop by as part of a wine tour, but definitely give yourself time to linger a while. New Braunfels has a rich history, steeped in tradition and German culture, that you’ll want to explore.

As you plan your visit, remember to stop by Sophie’s Shop so you can take a piece of New Braunfels with you. Inside, you’ll find the best collection of Texas history books, German collectibles and hand-blown Inge-Glas ornaments in New Braunfels.

You can choose from a docent-led tour, or go at your own pace. Docents often add extra insight and color to your visit, but the exhibits are clearly labeled and suitable for a self-guided experience. Groups of over 25 persons will be divided when possible. Allow at least 45 minutes for a guided tour. Reservations are required.

Admission Fees:

  • 5-25 persons: $8.00 per person
  • 25 and up: $7.00 per person

The Museum also offers “Strudel-doos.” This is a docent-led group tour that includes coffee and apple strudel in the foyer before or after the tour. Groups may also decide to walk through the exhibits without a guide. Reservations are required. Group must guarantee number of attendees 2 days prior to event.

  • Strudel-doo: $12.00 per person

Educational Tours

The Sophienburg Museum & Archives offers docent-led tours to schoolchildren from Pre-K through High School. The tour concentrates on the German immigration movement to Texas and early life in the New Braunfels area. Students experience an immigrant ship, 1860’s fachwerk cabin, c.1900 city street with 13 businesses, and exhibits on water, farming, ranching, and social customs. Videos on immigration, education, and social customs may be incorporated into the tour.

Groups larger than 25 may be divided. One adult per 20 children is suggested.
Allow at least 45 minutes for tour. Reservations are required. If you wish to book a school group, please contact Keva Boardman at 830-629-1572 or e-mail director@sophienburg.com

A museum scavenger hunt is offered instead of a docent-led tour and can accommodate up to 100 students at a time.
